Visit a disused goldmine and the cowboy town of Tabernas in Almeria. Explore the 5000 year old dolmens of Antequerra (declared a World Heritage Site in 2016) or submerge yourself in the hot springs of the Roman Baths in Casares, both in Malaga province. Travel from Algeciras to Ronda on a train line built by the British or see the excavated Roman town of Baelo Claudia in Cadiz province. In Cordoba province you can see the recently discovered Madinat al-Zahra, a magnificent residence built for the Caliphs of Andalucia and Granada of course has the Alhambra and the Nazrid Palace.
In Huelva you may like to go to the Rio Tinto area. These mines were developed by a British company during Victorian times. Or take a trip to the Donana National Park where you may spot the rare Iberian lynx or the Spanish Imperial eagle.
Seville cathedral with its tomb of Christopher Columbus is not to be missed and the fields around Seville are home to the famous Spanish fighting bulls.
