Tee to Green

                       with Bob Gaston

Many of you that are a little longer in the tooth may
remember that Tee to Green was first published in the
Andalucia Life magazine in July 2004 and ran for quite a
few years. I am now extremely pleased to recommence
this page in 2019. Fifteen years have flown by all too
The concept is to bring all the Costa del Sol golf news to
you with information regarding news from the golf clubs
regarding events, membership offers and special deals
that you may be interested in along with news from the
many Societies that abound the Coast from Gibraltar to
         International News
We start our International News with the Ladies European
Tour tournament that was held at the extremely
picturesque La Quinta Golf Club, Marbella.
Unfortunately, the weather was unkind which left the
course very wet and necessitated “Pick and Place”
         throughout the four days.
It must be twenty years since I’ve seen professional
ladies golf up close, that was at Marbella G.C when I
caddied for an English girl for four days. It was a great
experience which I well remember with fondness.
Modern-day ladies golf has come along in leaps and
bounds and is considerably more professional with
standards much higher and rising all the time, however,
as in many sports it would benefit from cash injections to
tempt future players to make a career in the sport. Over
lunch, which was a nice bit of Sea Bass courtesy of the
club, I talked to a really friendly chap called John who
was there for this very purpose so help could be on its
way. As it stands now, overall prize money is insufficient Anne Van Dam
for any player, say, outside the top six to make any money. Winner of Ladies European Tour

And so to the tournament. Our local girl Azahara Muñoz had won the first at La Quinta Golf
two Spanish competitions and was fancied to defend her title. Another
strong contender was Georgia Hall (England) our wunderkind who had
already won the Order Of Merit, but it was Anne Van Dam (Holland) who held
off a determined challenge by Muñoz to win by three shots and pocket the
€45,000 top prize out of a total prize money of €300,000.

Next month I shall be focussing on local golf Societies, so if you run a Society and
would like your results published or the Society mentioned, please drop me an email
or phone call at the below mentioned numbers.
You could well attract some new members!
