        Planning for the Future

is no car, or local transport, at hand.
The ideal spot to live at thirty five looks very different
at seventy five. As an example Mr. and Mrs. A. decided
to move to Spain and settled on the Estepona area as
a lovely place to live. They searched high and low
(literally) for the ideal home and were enchanted by
many of the outlying villages where peace and
serenity ruled. However they also took a look into the
future and saw themselves struggling to drive on some
of the roads to the doctors/shops etc., and envisaged
a time when even their driving on the Spanish roads
would be deemed unacceptable. So they decided to
live on a bus route with a regular service, and within
easy walking distance of all that they would need
                                                              – hence they are now happily ensconced in an
urbanisation with both of those needs met.
The point here is to think ahead, and plan ahead – if
possible. Simple steps now can avoid problems that
elderly people commonly face – isolation, loneliness,
                                                              helplessness, depression and untreated health
problems. Of course thinking ahead is not a solution to
everything, but, accepting that old age comes to us all,
is a step in the right direction.
