Our last talk of the season deals with the explosion of Pop Art,
celebrating the materials of everyday life, a popular rather
than elite culture.
Although Pop Art arose simultaneously in the UK and USA
both had their own identity, and there were distinct
differences between the forms it took. Whilst the world of
advertising and consumerism heavily influenced American
pop art, British artists took a more distant view, often ironic
Lecturer Ray Warburton will contrast Hockney with Warhol
and explain why British artists latterly distanced themselves
Visitors are welcome with no need to book.
