Illustrated Talk On Pop Art

held in Benahavis, Málaga Province

Tuesday 21 May 2019

On Both Sides Of The Atlantic

Our last talk of the season deals with the explosion of Pop Art, celebrating the materials of everyday life, a popular rather than elite culture.

Although Pop Art arose simultaneously in the UK and USA both had their own identity, and there were distinct differences between the forms it took. Whilst the world of advertising and consumerism heavily influenced American pop art, British artists took a more distant view, often ironic and self-reflective.

Lecturer Ray Warburton will contrast Hockney with Warhol and explain why British artists latterly distanced themselves from it.

Visitors are welcome with no need to book.
Entrance 12€ including a complimentary glass of wine.
Benahavis Town Hall, Tuesday 21st May 5.30pm for 6.30pm
