El Majuelo Park and Botanical Garden (Parque Botánico El Majuelo), can be found in the shadow of San Miguel Castle, in the heart of Almuñecar.

Meandering paths take you through the botanical garden where you will see over 200 species of trees and plants from subtropical areas of the world, such as Central and South America, Africa, the Philippines and New Zealand.

Dotted around the park you cannot fail to notice the striking sculptures. These are all made from marble from Macael in Almeria province and each has a story to tell. All the statues were made by sculptors from Syria. In 2005, the then mayor of Almuñecar, Trinidad Herrera, declared that the municipality was open to taking in refugees from war torn Syria. The statues are a very graphic thank you.

The so called, ‘province houses’ in the park are also a bit of a surprise. Each house represents one of the provinces in Andalucia and each has a different purpose. Some are artisan studios and workshops, some are souvenir shops. They help to bring the park to life.
